prusaslicer vs simplify3d

Finally, why am I writing this? These are things I’ve found it to do, that other slicers may not. Not the end of the world, but since all these things are saved together, it means I need to have… a lot of processes for every speed, resolution, and filament type combo. Tech support & forums : S3D for the win, just a bigger community (or better communication platform) it seems. Yes, there are more, but these seem to be popular: After reviewing all of them, and for reasons listed below, I decided to investigate Slic3r Prusa Edition. Not as fast as S3D, but still pretty fast. Slic3r thin wall detection should automatically change the extrusion width to a preset “minimum” to create the thin walls. 23. Finally, I’d like to give some suggestions to the S3D dev’s if they ever end up reading this: I agree that $150 bucks is just to steep for me to dip my toes into S3D, so thanks for the review. S3d’s better than slic3r for the fact it has more ways to preview the gcode. A handy way, mainly when dealing with bigger volcano nozzles, to limit how much material you extrude. That is what I moved to as I was a Slic3r user before S3D and I went back to it and didn’t like it but the Prusa Edition fixed the few things I didn’t like and that is all that I use plus it is open source not a closed source thing like S3D. Again, I generated this gcode with a .6mm nozzle, but with an extrusion width of .72mm (20% over). Flashforge’s slicer lets you do selective supports FYI. They are both capable and very powerful slicing programs. And mainly that edition over vanilla Slic3r because vanilla Slic3r hasn’t been updated since mid 2015, while the Prusa edition is being actively developed (+ extra fancy features). This is a pro above, but I also found it to be a con:  There were issues on my 3dBenchy tests (mainly the flag-pole hole on the stern) where it would collapse thin walls, but not replace them, causing gaps to form in the walls. I found this valuable when I had to modify the gcode output to support my RepRap Firmwares, by writing a custom pos-tprocesser in Python. I've got a dozen or so layer height profiles that I use, and a Quality (3 perimeter, slower speed) and Speed (2 perimeter, higher speed) variants of those. 23.09.2020, 16:30 . Beide Slicer sind kostenlos, beide liefern mit den Standardeinstellungen des Herstellers brauchbare Ergebnisse, beide haben ihre Stärken und kaum Schwächen. Did great:  It was able to detect and deal with walls almost 1/3 the width of my nozzle, the first one being .25 mm wide. I’ve also built my own printer a few years ago. Nothing exciting here, just temps & cooling. I think the ultimate slicer would allow any profile to over-ride any other setting. However, and as much as I like Simplify3D: I thought I should revisit what slicer software 2017 has available. I’ve used it on powerful PC’s, and pretty old Mac’s, and it’s never had a problem. Download files and build them with your 3D printer, laser cutter, or CNC. Do I feel Slic3r’s visual results outweigh S3D’s by 2:1? never listened and were slow to do anything about anything and just kept raising the price until it hit 149 dollars then it stayed there but so did any major innovations too. Wir stellen unseren neuen kompakten 3D-Drucker mit all dem Schnickschnack vor, den Sie von den Machern der preisgekrönten Original Prusa i3 MK2 und MK3S erwarten würden! hey there, good write up. Andiamo alla scoperta della nuova rivisitazione di Slic3r ovvero PRUSA SLICER 2.0 . Even though S3D does a great job with it’s ‘processes’, it took a step backwards with it’s v3 release:  Up until then, when you’d save a process, it would save on your hard drive, allowing for multiple people to easily share process values. I did most of my testing with the 3dBenchy model, trying to make sure both slicers had similar values. Beauty shot, side by side, S3D on the left, Slic3r on the right: Pretty darn close! However, that’s just the problem: it would seem that as far as features and functionalities are concerned, they both deliver. It took from 2.0 to 4.0 for the bridging issue to be finally be addressed (about 3 years) yet it sat on the forum not touched by the devs. Diese Funktion entfällt bei Simplify3D. The ability to set Max volumetric speed is a big one for me. It didn’t start printing until the wall with was greater than my extrusion width, so it left out all walls under .75mm. Thank you so much for taking the time to type this up, it's a big help. Show of your prints, or ask a question. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. This is to show all possible flaws. This is a major selling point, and brings much power and convenience when needed. I should also note that a number of people abstained saying “I don’t see any difference”. And you're right, the more granular approach definitely takes the headache out of those tweaks that you need to be applied to every Process. But I figured out, it was collapsing more than it should, in the case of the flagpole : There’s a small hole in it, which is also shown in the gcode itself: Turning this feature off fixed the flagpole, but caused a slight over-extrusion in other places, like where the bow meets the sidewalls, visualized in this comparison: Note on the right benchy, the line running parallel to the bow, below it. Which I’ve done before, it’s not good. gcode postprocessing via scripting language of your choice: This is pretty great:  You can pass in code from any scripting language (Python, Perl, JavaScript, etc) to postprocess your gcode. für den MKC und den ENDER-4) Cura (sehr selten) CAD: Fusion 360 (jeden Tag ein bisschen besser...) Filament: 1,75mm #1. Just says my printer is ‘not detected’. Several years back I built a D-Bot CoreXY printer with an Azteeg X5 GT controller, and very possibly have some not ideal firmware settings (where I suspect the issue is.) Other than that I don’t think it’s all that great, but just thought I’d mention it. Es ist der Preis. It can connect to, and upload gcode directly to Octoprint. Does a great job displaying gcode through a variety of filters (print speed, feature type, etc). Printed at 60mm/sec with active filament cooling, and slowing layers down for details like the smoke stacks. Not that it effects me so much, but it has pre-configured profiles for many printers, allowing a larger market-share to have success with the software sooner. Splitting these settings up (like Slic3r) would only make data management easier. Question. Der MINI+ ist ein großer Drucker in einem kompakten Gehäuse. If two walls are close together, they can be collapsed into one, so as to not cause an overextrusion problem in that area. If you are using a pirated copy of S3D, you won't have immediate access to the .fff file for your Anet A8 from Simplify3D's website. It is not an exaggeration to say that you can choose either Ultimaker Cura or Slic3r and still get the best slicing program available right now. PrusaSlicer is our own in-house developed slicer software based on the open-source project Slic3r. 50? These two represent the best out there and both are free. Having to individually tweak every bloody setting to save them off as a FFF, then realize I wanted to (for instance) modify my gcode means I have to load every FFF, modify it, then save it. (And yes, you can set the default and percentages once and leave them alone, but that's frustrating when you're experimenting with speeds.). S3D has a robust “machine control panel” for operting your printer, issuing gcode, printing gcode either over USB, or via SD. IMHO if they are to stay relevant they need to up their game in coming out with more frequent updates (both version and public relations wise) and get their beta testing act together. I’ve also been testing Pathio, that i nicknamed Pathetico. I’ve been a 3d printing hobbyist for right around five years now:  I purchased my first printer, a Makerbot Replicator 1 (which I still own, still prints great) in March of 2012. There can be a certain topic that has 5 pages of people voting it up, but you never hear if the developers know, or care. It also has support blockers. A nice feature is you can toggle on/off ‘from built platform only’, so you can generate automatic supports for everything touching the bed, the later add in manual supports as needed elsewhere. I know that slicer software is like religion, politics, and CAD software:  People can get very attached to them. Slic3r wins here, with it’s ability to use any scripting language. Since the bencny wasn’t the best test for this, I down laded a “thin wall test” from Thingiverse, and ran them through both slicers. News from Josef: Prusa has been simplifying and improving its open-source slicer Slic3r PE, offering a ton of interesting new features and introducing a new name PrusaSlicer. 3 — Slic3r — Best Open Source 3D Slicer. S3D wins here, providing more tools that are easier to use. Powerful new feature allowing you to smoothly adjust the print resolution over height. Software Updates:  The Prusa Edition of Slic3r seems very actively developed… who knows when S3D will get another update, or what it will even have. Secondo voi ci ha impressionato ? This new bug(s) should have been easily caught by their beta testers (whoever they are). Thin wall detection : Even though Slic3r has some problems, the fact that it recognizes them at all (compared to S3d) is a win. This list is the main reason I started looking for other slicer options. I hadn't tried doing any import/export of configs or 3MF because I assumed it was more for moving/sharing presets and could create duplicates if I re-imported configs I already had in my PrusaSlicer. There are many trees that carry a piece of history or sentimental value for someone. No problem on my PC. Yes, you can export them out to your HD, but this creates an extra, unnecessary step. While Simplify 3D’s ‘processes’ are great, based on the fact that I use multiple ones so infrequently, I give Slic3r the win here, since it allows you to split you printer settings, print settings, and filament settings to separate presets, while Simply3D lumps them all into one. They also had and still have a pretty good slicer toolpath generation when you don’t run into one of their bugs that kills your print. I've been really happy with the results I am getting out of PrusaSliver and the recent update adds a lot of nice features... however, as I've accumulated various filament types (wood, steel, TPE, TPU, PLA, PETG) I've come to find that I've had to create several presets for "print settings", "filament settings", and "printer settings". So I've set up prusaslicer (hereafter called PS) for Saffy (sapphire pro) and I'll do a few of the test prints that I originally did but with s3d (simplify3d). Lovely but not the first time I have seen this done and I have said, and I will continue to say, that S3D is not worth the price charged. Most other features can be circumvented through different design choices or print orientation (absolutely depends on the parts print though). With a huge number of advanced features and more than enough settings for anyone to play with, this slicer is suitable for both FDM and SLA/DLP 3D printers, one of the few of its kind. See an informative post. You can do it, but (instead of the File menu) via “Platter -> Export Plate as AMF…” (. The ‘normal style’ support that other printers generate create more material, but also are less likely to fail\fall, and can often recover higher up. Simple, but handy:  There’s a notes page for your prefs, to jot down extra info. Since then I’ve used multiple slicers to generate my gcode, but mainly (and in order):  ReplicatorG, MakerWare (now MakerBot Print), and Simplify3D. This is similar to S3D’s ‘processes’, except you can use an stl to define a. one big thing is the supports in slic3r (prusa edition anyway) are way overkill and there is no function to add selective supports like in s3d. Highres mesh toolpath simplification:  Slic3r clearly wins here, realizing this is an important aspect of any highres model. In den letzten Tagen ist es hier recht ruhig geworden was aber auch seinen Grund. Download files and build them with your 3D printer, laser cutter, or CNC. I had a total of 57 people vote, and by 2:1, they chose the Slic3r version over S3D. Der erste große Unterschied liegt natürlich klar auf der Hand. I didn’t tell them anything about how they were made other than “I’m comparing two different prints, what do you think is better?”. I think sometime in the next few months S3D should have another release if they follow years past, I definitively look forward to that will bring. I have experimented with creating Quality and Speed variants with different retraction and machine limits. And you always need at least one: The power comes into play however, that you can assign them per mesh to print (if there are multiple being printed): You can even ‘group’ processes so as to link their similar parameters together, so changing one changes all others (see how this works. It’s not that Slic3r doesn’t have that, S3D’s just seems more active. Did not do well at all. Which I personally find quite questionable, since it gives the impression they don’t care about their user base. The gcode for both slicers were sent over USB, via S3D. They’re both great pieces of software, and they both a have many features in my ‘pro’ sections. It looks better than S3D’s as well. Slic3r only lets you modify the ‘print settings’ per model, you can’t adjust printer or filament settings, which would help greatly.
